Ann Watts IBCLC
What happens during a home visit with an IBCLC?
Well, that entirely depends on you! I am person centred and I will absolutely be led by your support needs.
But, most visits go something like this;
We arrange a suitable time for me to visit. If it’s tricky to find your home, or parking is specific, please let me know.
I am really really not bothered if you are in your PJ’s and there is washing up in the sink. We can sit in any space that you are comfortable. We can have a cuppa, or not - I certainly don’t expect one! I will probably need somewhere to wash my hands.
I will ask you loads of questions, listen to the answers and together we can make a picture of where you are, what’s happening and what’s changing. I’ll probably write down few things, just so we can remember what we talked about.
I will observe you feeding your baby/babies. They will probably be asleep when I arrive, so we can wait for them to wake up, or you can wake them. I might get quite close to you, but I’m not going to touch you, or your baby without your permission. Most of the time, I won’t be touching. It’s just not the way I work.
We might have a go at some different positions for feeding your baby, or just tweak the one you are in already.
We can talk about what’s going on and what we can change if change is needed to help you reach your feeding goals.
Appointments are upto ninety minutes, but I won’t be clock watching.
After our appointment, I will send you a copy of my notes by email. You can WhatsApp/text me afterwards if you have any further feeding questions.
If I remember I will send you a feedback email at some point after too ☺
